Behind the Scenes at Ippolita

For those always interested in the next big trend, our merchandising department was afforded a 'sneak peak' of the upcoming spring line at Ippolita. The consensus, “this idea of soft flowing, non-structural seems to be key for spring jewelry!”

This upcoming spring features soft and feminine pieces, including new silver colors mixed with lilac, sky blue and blue topaz. New silhouettes feature a lot of chunky stud/dome earrings. Ippolita is making a big statement with new large, dangle earrings mixed with a conservative mini-post and silhouette that stays on the ear. These new pieces will appear at Hamilton Jewelers before Valentine’s Day.

Ippolita will also be releasing the new Sculptura Collection, exhibiting free-flowing, organic shapes mounted in silver bezel with diamond details. The pieces look unique and sculptural - hence the name.

Modern Rock Candy is getting an update! The new stone shapes are very structural and large. The collection is showcasing single gemstone rings and earrings in softer colors, making a big impact on the shape of the stone. The collection will come in clear quartz, white mother-of-pearl in March and then some brown mother-of-pearl mixed with a pop of turquoise leading into the summer.

In general, Ippolita is showcasing a lot of beaded necklaces, with the focus on tumbled stones with very little silver and gold. There is a strong continuation of spiritual beads and macramé bracelets with charm detail over the dated charm bracelet look.

Overall, this upcoming line from Ippolita will take on an ephemeral feel, surely perfect while we dream of spring!

Prince William Engaged to Longtime Girlfriend, Kate Middleton, with Diamond and Sapphire Engagement Ring

After eight years of dating, Prince William has finally asked Kate Middleton to marry him, popping the question on an excursion in Kenya last month. They are expected to wed in either the Spring or the Summer of 2011, in one of the grandest royal weddings since Prince Williams’ parents, Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, over 30 years ago.

Of course, we are always interested in the ring! Prince William gave Kate his late mothers’ engagement ring, an oval blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds. "This was my way of making sure that my mother didn't miss out on today," William said as the couple posed for photographers at St. James’ Palace.

What an exciting weekend!

Friday night was our Bridal Showcase at our Lawrenceville location featuring Monday Morning Flowers, photographers Jane and Pam Grescek, design house Thurin Atelier, calligrapher Shirlee DiBacco and treats from Chambers Walk and Sucre Custom Cakes. Each partner brought a great deal to display and share, from wedding cake to gowns and everything inbetween! Stylist and Jewelry expert, Michael O’Connor, was on hand to share style tips with guests. We were excited to see so many couples picking out their wedding bands, and we wish them all the best! And congratulations to the guests who won an all expense paid honeymoon vacation to the Dominican Republic and a custom wedding cake from Sucre Cakes!

Saturday was our Diamond and Gemstone Event at our Princeton location. It was a busy day, and we were thrilled with the turnout of guests! We had a great deal of special, unique European designs, and we know that our guests will enjoy their new pieces.

No bridal showcase would be complete without the all-important gown. In preparation for our November 5th Bridal Showcase at our Lawrenceville location, we're featuring Thurin Atelier, our bridal gown designer of choice.

Jean-Ralph Thurin exhibited a desire for fashion design as early as age 5. Influenced by growing up around the world and learning to sew from his grandmother, Thurin eventually began to design prom gowns for classmates in high school. This eventually led Thurin to attend the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York City, with a focus on haute couture fashion houses, where the inspiration for Thurin Atelier began. Beginning simply in his Long Island basement, Thurin created custom wedding dresses for clients. As word of mouth spread in being the bridal gown designer of choice, Thurin moved to his current flagship location in downtown Princeton. We are pleased to partner with such an esteemed member of the fashion community.

Girls Night Out 2010 at Hamilton Jewelers

Last night was our Girl's Night Out 2010, and it was quite the success! We had a great turnout and hope everyone enjoyed themselves. There was some amazing food represented by DishCatering, Carter & Catero and MoC MoC, whose table was constantly packed! Our resident stylist, Aziz, from Casa Aziz, gave some amazing hair consultations and provided some gift bags. Our fashion show was a smash, with our models representing clothing from J. McLaughlin, and handbags and shoes from Kate Spade. Our raffle was phenomenal, and we congratulate all the winners for some of our fabulous prizes! We raised some great funds for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

News and blogging sites have been inundated with news about the most amazing and expensive monopoly board ever, currently on display at the Museum of Finance on Wall Street. The gold and jewel-encrusted Monopoly is estimated to be worth $2 million, and features 42 full-cut diamonds on the dice, photo etched “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards and 165 gemstones in the board culminating in an even more expensive Boardwalk and Park Place!

It turns out, that there are a lot more jewel-encrusted luxuries, besides jewelry. Check out the list below for some full blown extravagance!

Made of one-hundred carats of 500 individual flawless diamonds, encased with a plate of rose gold and features the normal home button as a 7.4 carat pink diamond, it is the most expensive phone ever made, beating a previous record in 2003.

For the toy and model car lovers, the ultimate toy car! It can come in customizable gold, platinum or silver, as a Lamborghini or any luxury car, with diamond headlights and ruby tailpipes.

Thank you to all those who attended our 3rd Annual Raduno D'Eleganza! The event presented 100 Ferrari automobiles, many of which were limited or special editions. Broad Street was packed with guests who then had the opportunity to speak with the car owners, see the cars up close, and have their picture taken with these impressive vehicles!

The annual Raduno D'Eleganza is a fundraiser for a worthwhile charitable organization and we are happy to say that this year's event raised more than we've ever raised at past events! Hamilton Jewelers and Ferrari of Central New Jersey helped to raise over $30,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Funds were raised through raffle ticket sales and a live auction. Some of the pieces that were sold at the live auction included an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak timepiecevalued at $18,300 and an original piece of artwork by the famous artist, Peter Max, created especially for the event valued at $14,000. Both of these were auctioned off to Hamilton Jewelers guests. 100% of the proceeds from the raffle ticket sales, live auction, and rally fees were donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

A private dinner was held at Rats Restaurant in Hamilton to welcome the brand and the President and CEO of Audemars North America, Francois Bennahmias. Presentations, videos, and a first look at the latest timepiece styles was accompanied by a gourmet dinner, a guided tour of Grounds For Sculpture and the opportunity to meet Mr. Bennahmias.

It's official! We are on the list of retailers that actively take measures to support and abide by the "Golden Rules" set forth by No Dirty Gold, a campaign from EarthWorks.

What does this mean?
Our purchasing practices and supplier contracts adhere to a strict policy against the procurement of gold through means that have a negative impact environmentally or socially. The term "dirty gold" refers to destructive methods of mining that cause harm to the environment, the people and the community in which the mining is taking place. Nassau Inn of Princeton is holding a Community Response gathering on February 10th, 4-9pm, to support the Red Cross International Response Fund in its Haiti relief efforts. Two of our classic Hamilton Collections were featured within the editorial pages of the 2010 Worth Avenue magazine.

Our Lisette Collection diamond earrings with pear and marquise shape detachable diamond drops were featured in the "Gifts of Distinction" section. These earrings are handcrafted in platinum by our Master Jewelers with special micro-bead settings to showcase brilliant center diamonds.

WWD Collections Trend Report

The WWD Collections Book recently highlighted their picks for the top trends seen on the runways this year. Filled with photos from the world's top designers, including Balenciaga, Chanel, Donna Karan, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Missoni, Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, and Versace, the piece featured the spectrum of looks shown within each trend.

GO PRIMAL with animal prints, wild patterns, and vibrantly natural tones. These brushed 18k yellow gold pieces reflect the organic shapes and patterns of wilderness.

Large Earrings at the Video Music Awards
